The 51-year-old rider from Romagna, with his Ktm, became the protagonist of an exciting progression that also led him to finish the marathon in the Saudi desert within the absolute best forty between two wheels and in the top ten of the ranking of motorcyclists who raced the whole race without assistance.
Jeddah (Arabia Saudita), January,16 – 2021
Two weeks of extreme competition, twelve stages and 4,767 timed kilometers of a tough, exhausting race. Here is the scenario that the beginning of the year offered to Movisport, the “Dakar” in Saudi Arabia, where the Reggio colors were brought up by the 51-year-old from Turin Cesare Zacchetti and his KTM.
So high that yesterday, at the finish in Jeddah, Zacchetti stroked the checkered flag in 38th position overall, first of the Italians on motorcycles and seventh in the special classification of the category called “OriginalByMotul”, reserved for riders who ran the entire race without assistance. A unique experience, full of difficult moments, having to run in complete autonomy, but also extremely exciting from a human as well as a technical aspect.
The race (this 2021 was the third experience for Zacchetti at the “Dakar”), started on January 2, saw Zacchetti start with caution, trying to take the classic measures to a competition that the slightest error, the slightest hesitation and even the smallest moment of hesitation makes him pay dearly. He also took advantage of the experience, Zacchetti, in his third experience in the most famous desert marathon and day after day he was able to climb the rankings with extremely interesting partial results, often also in line with the official drivers present, who certainly have a more structured organization than private pilots.
“I thank all those who followed me – comments Zacchetti – supported throughout the race through social media. Crazy! Thank you very much. A magnificent experience from a sporting point of view but above all also from a human point of view. I had a frightened moment when on the first day it was still dark in the morning and I slipped on some diesel lost from a truck. I fell but luckily the damage was minimal. Then, for the rest, beautiful moments, with fellow adventurers, the landscapes you pass through, moments, truly unique moments. Thanks a lot to everyone! ”.
He competed with a headset for augmented reality and shared the entire route live on social media.
Zacchetti competed with a headset for augmented reality and shared the entire route live on social media. His followers were able to see him in action and admired his ability to orient himself in the desert throughout the 13 days of racing.
